Multi-instrumentalist, Jason McInnes, is a veteran music educator based in Chicago, IL. He has been a faculty member at the nationally recognized Old Town School of Folk Music since 2003, where he has created several programs to support music-making for families and reinvigorated the youth guitar program.
Jason brings his unique approach to music education beyond the walls of the Old Town School. Jason leads harmonica and songwriting residencies at schools throughout the Chicago Public School system. In addition, he spent four years as the elementary music teacher at Rogers Park Montessori School, Chicago, IL.
Jason founded the Young Stracke All-Stars in 2008, which consists of young musicians ages 9 to 13. The group is named after children’s music and education pioneer, Win Stracke. Jason founded the group to provide a link between master musicians of the past and young audiences of today. With the group, Jason provides master classes with national artists, and concerts and community music-making opportunities to group members, their families, and the public.
Jason’s performances and workshops have taken him from bedsides at Comer Childrens’ Hospital, to sitting with legends like Ella Jenkins and all the way to festival stages in México and England.
Jason’s also bring his banjo, harmonica and vocal talents to his duo, the Wren & the Whistler. The Wren & the Whistler were awarded 1st Prize – Group Division at the 2013 Midwest Fiddle Championship.
